When remodeling, or just simply upgrading your kitchen, there are ways to save money and still have an amazing set up. One way would be to pull your existing tile, if that's what is on your floor, and see what's underneath. If there are hardwood floors, rent a sander from your local hardware store. Home Depot usually rents their tools out for the day at reasonable prices. I would say a sander for this project for the day would probably run you 50 bucks, at the most. If there are hardwood floors, sand them out, and stain them with some stain that is good on floors, and be sure to get a poly coat that is recommended on floors, if not, you will be up against a bigger mess than you've bargained for. It WILL peel. Once you are finished entirely with your floor, be sure to let it sit for 48 to 72 hours before you begin the rest of the kitchen make over. Once you are ready to move forward with the rest of your kitchen, cover all of your floor thoroughly with a layer of plastic, and then with drop cloths 2 layers thick as well. Now, pick a color for your cabinets. Be sure to clean them with a good degreasing product like TSP, or something along those lines. Home Depot also has a really good rustoleum cabinet painting kit that would be good at this point. Or if you plan on using different materials, what we always like to do, is clean them with tsp, remove all hardware and doors, sand/scuff them as needed, paint them with a coat of white pigmented shellac, and then use an ultra white base, pro classic, water based alkyd, from Sherwin Williams for our finish coats. We cut in the cabinets where necessary, and whiz roll them with ultra smooth finish, 4" purdy roller covers also from Sherwin Williams, however, this is the process we'd take if we weren't going to spray the cabinets. After the cabinets have been thoroughly coated, which may take a few coats, we would then begin to put all the doors and hardware back on. After which, we would begin coating our counter tops with a thin layer of soy crete. Once this has been evenly applied, and in the exact design you'd prefer, let it stand and dry for 24 hours. When you come back to the counter tops the following day, wipe them down, and remove any residual build up that can easily be scraped off. After you have inspected the surface, and it is flat and even enough to move forward, then get a good concrete stain. Begin applying a coat in the manner in which the directions describe. At this point of the upgrade you are going to want to follow all directions carefully, and thoroughly. Be sure to google this process if necessary. After staining the counter tops, focus on the ceiling. Hang a new light if your budget allows. Get something that will match what you are going for in this kitchen. Also, if you really want to go all out, they make appliance paint. However, this is something you'd want to give a trial run before actually applying it to any appliances, to be sure it would actually be what you would want. Now, this is where you'd paint the ceiling, then walls in desired sheen and color. Then you would move on to your baseboards. Once those are complete, your kitchen is ready to go. Go over everything carefully with an LED flashlight and get any areas that were over looked during your touch up. Now, I know that this was not an in depth description of a complete kitchen make over, however, what I have left you is a blue print to use on what to look for when each step arrives. Just search online a list of thorough directions when doing this step by step process. Or simply go to our website, and get all contact info from there, and contact us directly. I'd be more than happy to give you any pointers or helpful info. Well, that's that, until next time, Happy Painting!!!
